About Mindful Maki

Mindful Maki began as a way to return to presence through cooking.

Meet James

Hi, I’m James - a psychologist and home cook.

Some of my earliest memories are in the kitchen with my mum. Cooking together wasn’t just about making food. It was how I learned to be with her - through small moments, quiet conversations, and time spent side by side.

As life got busier, I found that same sense of connection again through sushi making. The rhythm of washing rice and preparing ingredients created space to slow down, pay attention, and feel present.

Mindful Maki grew from that place - bringing together cooking, psychology, and the simple power of sharing moments around food.

One card. One step. One moment at a time.
